Home Why Media Analysis? Our Approach Sectors About Us

Measuring your news coverage needs to be more than a quick chart telling you whether your news volume is up or down. Or in what region most of your coverage appeared. Or the supposed advertising value of all that coverage (since, cliché to the contrary, all publicity is not necessarily good publicity).

Acuitas Media Research offers a sophisticated blend of both quantitative and qualitative analysis of media coverage trends – factoring in not only volumes of coverage, but also a careful measurement of, and elaboration on, key details in the content of such coverage.

Our methodology offers reliable quantification of coverage levels, provided in easily understood charts and graphs. Moreover, we have also developed a refined process for tracking the relative favourability of news treatment of our clients.

Our Services
Acuitas Media Research’s products and services are carefully tailored to each client’s individual requirements. Our reports can range from daily “Rapid Alert” updates during crucial periods, through to weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual evaluations of coverage trends.

Reports are provided in a variety of formats, all of which are designed with user friendliness as a priority. Key findings are delineated in easy-to-read and easy-to-find segments. Charts and graphs are used to consolidate useful information into concise visuals snippets.

Client Consultation
Products are designed in close collaboration with clients. Each analysis exercise begins with a careful consultation, at which time our representatives determine the client’s key priorities, and acquaint the client with our methodology and our wide array of reporting techniques. Together, we’ll determine primary goals and interests – including the scope of media to be examined, along with a listing of key issues, individuals, stakeholders and potential client initiatives deemed most relevant. The products are easily adjustable when and if required.

Product Examples
Our procedures allow us to carefully follow and analyze a range of coverage characteristics. As examples, we can: track specific, predetermined issues; report on media treatment of client initiatives; and provide warnings on unanticipated and potentially troubling news developments.

A typical monthly report might begin with a single page executive summary of the period’s most relevant news developments, and could be accompanied by a slim sidebar, offered in bullet form, highlighting key findings relating to:

• tone and volume of coverage;
• regional coverage variations;
• coverage of stakeholders, including lobbyists, special interest groups, client competitors and political representatives;
• coverage of key issues, both predetermined and unexpected.

Subsequent sections of the report would delve more fully into particularly pertinent coverage characteristics, presented both through statistical charts and graphs, and through thorough written explanations.

Charting
Our methodology allows us to burrow deep into coverage, and thus provide our key findings with considerable levels of detail. Our charts and graphs convey those findings with quick visual clarity. For instance, a public or private sector client might require timely updates on coverage afforded climate change issues. Our charts would convey a variety of our major findings in instantly readable style.

Charts can convey statistical results on a wide range of topics and coverage characteristics: they can be issue specific, can examine long or short time lines, or coverage provided by key reporters and media outlets.

Interpretive Analysis
Statistics can speak volumes, but do not tell the full story. At Acuitas Media, charts and graphs are accompanied by detailed written elaboration of key coverage trends. Experienced analysts highlight and explain important developments in coverage. We seek to identify strategic communications opportunities for improving your messaging and coverage.
